SCALES FELL FROM MY EYES

sometimes one's realm of vision
just refuses to suffice
the angelic may seem wicked
what is hellish, paradise
.
the skin between is flimsy
and it wears a weak disguise
i'm weighing things more carefully
since scales fell from my eyes
.
my feet were bound with anchors
and a millstone clutched my neck
an anvil, as a hat, i wore
a locomotive wreck
.
but as the dark of night wound down
the sun was on the rise
my mood, once black, infused with light
since scales fell from my eyes
.
a devil sat upon my left
an angel on my right
a harsh and scathing diatribe
against a hymn so light
.
and somewhere in the middle
was the truth mixed in with lies
i find i'm much more balanced now
since scales fell from my eyes

Your piece fits all my personal 'I like' wishlist. It is
A poem
It rhymes (I like poems that either rhyme or have some other formal shape or structure)
It has a voice I can hear
It tells a tale
It has vivid images (not a must for me as I hear poems 1st and see them 2nd) but I like 'em
It concludes with a sharply rhyming powerful bang. (not a must but..)
It has an element of lightness and is not entirely bleak (again not a must but..)
I like it! Elsie
