Woolly Mammoth Heart

My heart is like a red ball of wool
and you in feline frenzy have worried it
unravelled me, so my blood guts
spilled, hot and heaving
upon the magical weave
of your Persian carpet
twisty tide of crimson
undone dead wool weight
so it cannot fly...
I sprawl, unknotted, ungainly
mess of irresolution upon
the wounding warp and weft
of your Kilim country
alien stranded in an inscrutable land
where I have no right of abode
teased till my hairs stand on end
bothered bewildered chaos
unfurling feeble as shapeless
unfit-for-purpose ungarment...
Won't you gather me round
so I'm wound back upon
your open hearted palms?
Do not drop, but stitch me sane
again, purl me pretty till
I nest, rest once more
upon your broad back, against
the hearth of your heart
so I may caress, warm you
once winter's spite
and the coal of night sets in...
