Fern (Your Love Endures)

Fern, no sunlight will warmly touch your face today
yet you show your indifference, with fronds of muted blue
Perhaps your colours represent the past moods of all forests lost
felled to the arrogance of a thousand axes
but look, you survived this saddest cost
Defiance reflected in mauve, farewells to friends in red tears
let your moods be known to all those who haven’t yet seen
the depth of true happiness, that we once shared, on many fields of green
and Fern, while you subtly colour this bland world, with your purity on display
I wonder why you reach out with arms unfurled, to that hope beyond the grey
to where only wild ferns can survive and grow within the shade
My darling Fern your love endures, beyond the days that it was made...
