My Winter Wonderland

I awake in a winter, cold sweat.
Cool morning air coasts over
my warm, insulated blanket.
A condensed vapor clings to
my bedroom window. The
dense fog of slumber still
swirls over my addled brain.
I stumble to the window, and
wipe the glossed pane, streaming
through the crystalline-coated
frame, a cropped, hazy line of
white shadows. As my grainy
lens come into focus, a bright
flash of powder blinds my
vision. Re-gaining my wits,
I close the shutter on my
dazed lens. The developed
portrait of a winter wonderland
glimmers on my back yard; a
confectionery of sweet, condensed
treats looms. Cotton candy swabs
flutter overhead, and Star flakes of
sugar float to the ground.
An egg white meringue coats
a frozen mud pie. Marshmallow
dollops cover the hollow cones
of my holly bushes. A layer of
Butter Cream frosting ices my
gingerbread limbs. Translucent
pop sickles dangle from my roof.
With visions of Sugar plums and
candy canes now dancing in my
head, I return to my warm bed,
and enfold the surrealistic portrait
into my holiday dreams.
