Arriving at my local post office
On this clear, yet frosty winters day.
I'm greeted by a lengthy queue
At a quarter past two.
And not so happy faces
That make me feel blue.
But I tilt my small petite frame
And smile as I glance at one or two
While I slip quietly and of no unimportance
Behind a frail, yet vibrant looking lady in blue.
My back is killing, head spinning all
I want to do is be rid of this cantankerous flu.
Then as I contemplate whether to stay and try
Another day, a soft, spoken woman starts talking to me
About everything from politics to glue.
I didn't mind, I said to myself it will pass the
Time away for a minute or two, so i thought.
but 15 minutes later were still talking
and I'm really wishing i wasn't in this never ending queue.
Don't get me wrong, she was a lovely lady and I so enjoyed
Our chat, she so made me laugh. But if ever there
Was a day when I wished I was far away..........

Is there anything worse than queuing in the post office? Well I suppose there is, but while you are there, especially if unwell, it's hard to think of anything worse. Still, nice to chat to pass the time. A fun poem.
Hope you are well in real life, P.R., but if not - get well soon.
Enjoyed reading your poem.

Me too, Prettyrose, and I can certainly identify with that queuing. An hour, at least, on Friday.
Much enjoyed.

I don't know why ours doesn't
I don't know why ours doesn't have chairs, - is it health and safety fears? It's particularly bad here now and in the summer when there are a lot of migrant strawberry pickers trying to send money back to eastern europe.
Maybe you helped the other lady in her wait! regards, Rhiannon
