Grandfather's Clock

I’ll never forget the day I got amnesia
I remember it so well
I just can’t name the date or the day
Funny how the mind works that way
I recall my childhood days climbing trees
Blinded by sunshine through the leaves
Tripping over the kerb grazing my knees
The world was mine to do as I please
Cycling to the shop for sweets
On a bike far too big for me
Crossing over the bypass
A dangerous place to be
I’ll never forget the day I got amnesia
I remember it so well
I just can’t picture the month or year
Funny how thinking brings you fear
Memories of school and love at first sight
I can still see her standing under that light
On a cold November foggy night
She was such a beautiful sight
We brushed each other’s skin
And clasped each other’s hands
Her fingers slender and thin
We kissed with mouths closed
I’ll never forgive the day I got amnesia
I remember it so well
I see the same recurring photograph
Funny how love doesn’t make you laugh
Life is like a creeper plant
You never see it when it’s small
But it traces all your history
When it weaves itself so tall
I still remember you
I forget if you were mine
I still remember you
God is that the time
