I expect God will be there

Slightly strange isn't it
that I can't call myself an atheist.
I've been thinking about the afterlife or more specifically
the bit directly before it.
I guess it's because I don't like to take my hands
off the harness of the rollercoaster.
Some people don't wave their hands in the air
for the photo at the finish.
If you're locked in a toilet you carry on shouting for help
even though you know no-one will hear you.
I'm not religious but I'm not not religious.
I'm just trying to work things out
and I know that like with magic tricks
nothing is enhanced by knowing the answer.
We need to all say on our 30th birthday thank God
we weren't one of the unlucky ones
and surely not questioning why the world exists is like
getting back home and finding a selection of your favourite cheeses
on your kitchen table with crusty warm bread and not saying
but someone must have put them there.

I think probably most people would agree with you. I like that last 4 lines especially. Studying biochemistry, I understoodand the impossiblity of any chance production of the universe, but it was actually reading the Bible to see what it really said about Jesus Christ, and praying for comprehension that got me to know him, and his grace. The madness of atheism is
The madness of atheism is equal to the insanity of blind faith so I like the balance that I find here. Good as usual John.

Love the cheesy bit at the end and the dippy sauciness of thought throughout. The atheist idea that we were magically generated from the primordial fart of universal nothingness is funny and I prefer to think we were a heavenly experiment to see if good could prevail from scientific knowledge. I certainly won't be holding my breathe much longer on that one, though.
Religion's quicksand for the mind but there's no reason why we can't believe in a God of our choice and understanding, purely for the sake of our own sanity and wellbeing. That said, my girlfriend has just lent me the Rainbow Good News Bible, which is the bible for children. I'm no good with Shakespeare and all the thou hast casteth the thingumijig thrice mallarky but I'd like to understand the endtimes betterer so I can scurry off to a hamlet in sw France and live off the land with a hunting dog before the caca hits the proverbial fan.
One typo;
and surely not questioning why the world exists is like
getting back home and find(ing) a selection of your favourite cheeses

God will find us. If we let him. So it's good to keep our minds open. Love the cheesey ending and warm bread is a nice touch.
