Please Read Me

Explore me from the top -
from left to right,
wide eyed - lips tight,
head tipped thus,
in contemplation -
a nod, a wink
to show you think
I am worthwhile.
Bend me backwards,
scrutinise each detail
that might seem futile
but which could shed light;
some clue to fathom
what I am about.
Then let me out
to influence the minds
of those who'll listen,
so I might live
with much to give -
have meaning.
I am verse unheard
accept me
or reject me
but first, I beg you, read me,
please.

Sometimes the author himself
Sometimes the author himself/herself needs to be cajoled to reveal more, that the 'much to give' can be more accessible – just like some people who want to be understood, but are such closed books, can't let you in to begin to really empathise! Rhiannon

Gives food for thought and I
Gives food for thought and I liked the light touch, the playfulness of this one. Meaning's such an ambiguous exercise and all based on our own context, isnt it. Some dead poets would roll around laughing at modern analysis if they could hear GCSE literature. Often known to be an ambiguous writer myself, so I hear this.
Does your 'please' need an exclamation mark at the end? More impact without I think.

Couldn't resist that title! I
Couldn't resist that title! I hate over-scrutinising too. Like having to explain a joke. I like the 'verse unheard' phrase. It'sa bit like that tree falling in an empty forest thing - ie it doesn't exist if nobody reads it.

Hi Bee
Hi Bee
I suppose it is only natural that those who write will hope that someone will be willing to read what they have written. But I also think that it is a pleasure to write for its own sake - even if nobody sees or reads your words. I'm thinking of all the people who write diaries, never expecting them to read by someone else. One of my favourite authors - Laura Engles Wilder (who wrote Little House on the Prarie) - who came from my part of America - wrote diaries of her day to day life. It was only after she had died that her children had them published into the wonderful books that they are.
