The Wise Man and the Wolf

The Wise Man saw the Wolf hunt all day and all night, yet could also see that the wolf was far from well fed.
“Creature of four legs and fur” said the Wise Man “I see you hunt both all through the moon and sun, yet I never see any more meat on those skinny bones of yours.”
“That is because, creature of two” said the Wolf “I am one of many in my family, so I have a responsibility to those I take care of, such as the young, old and the weak, who all need this meat more than me.”
The Wise Man laughed and simply said “As a wise man, I walked away from those who need me, so I only need to look after myself.”
The Wolf cast the man a questioning look, but then simply nodded and bid him ado.
One day, after the harsh season had gone and the green season began, a ginormous black bear named Worg attacked a den owned by a pack of wolves, searching for meat after a long hibernation. The Wolf who we met earlier whilst defending the young got cornered by the bear. But he and all the cubs were saved by the rest of his pack and together he and his family fended off the creature as well as managing to save the last morsels of meat. Although, Worg then found the Wise Old Man’s lonely hut and could smell meat roasting through his chimney.
With only the Wise Man to fend for himself, the bear took his food, destroyed his home and nearly took away the Old Man’s life. The moral of the story is, it is never wise to be selfish and you need the people you look after as much as they need you.
