– a bunch of old photos
‘Bill’s changed a lot! Joe’s beard’s black!
There’s Annie as a tot!
Who’s that peeping at the back?
‘Here’s brother Bert, and his wife, Grace
(she loved that glittery skirt);
–now, there’s a most familiar face!
‘This meal and dance were when you went
to relatives in France
for that reunion event.’
“That’s ages past”– ‘yes, long ago
– don’t photos last and last?
no wear and tear or aging show.’
The memories are bitter-sweet,
when solid food and meals
you cannot manage now to eat,
nor rush around as in those days,
but hearing still is sound:
you smile as on our smiles you gaze.
Enjoyed, these snaps give stimulation
while twilight days you live,
your lifespan’s fading culmination.
As in and out of sleep you drift,
the memories you keep
your heart to faith may stir and lift.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
Lovely poem, and how true it is that photos can add so much to the life of an elderly person.

It is true that memories can
It is true that memories can be bitter-sweet and a photo album can emphasise the difference between then and now. The changes in people's appearance are very much in evidence and remembering particular events may be of some comfort to elderly persons. Your poem skilfully highlights the ephemeral nature of human life as opposed to the the ageless and unchanging photographs. Well done.

We change but the photo can
We change but the photo can trap a moment in time and remain a lovely thing to share.

Lovely photo, Rhiannon. It
Lovely photo, Rhiannon. It shows company being very much enjoyed. There's so much I recognise in your poem. There is a sort of comfort in appreciating triggered memories whilst living in the now.
