So.

Cedar versus spruce

Well, spruce is lighter, clearer

More defined and simple

It gives those highs
and brightness of tone

One sound with many voices

The sound of a thousand songs
ringing in my head

And cedar?

Well, once I might have said dull

Wooden

But, you know?

With time the wood begins to give

It yields up something

A certain softness

Some might call it subtlety

The highs becoming middle

The peaks pretending curves
as something else emerges

Character

Rich like Bordeaux or Bourguignon

Or maybe it's just mid-range

I try them both again

Spruce or cedar?

It matters

Because there's only room for one

Hi Bee. Got to decide which one to take to Madrid in the summer. Got a Tanglewood wwith cedar top and my partner's Yamaha with a spruce top. I had the Yamaha set up recently at Mickleburgh's in Bristol and it's really nice to play, but the TW is nicely put together, just more cramped at the neck. Has a very different sound. Have to decide by the end of August. Strange topic to write about, but I'm a strange boy.

As you are going to Madrid, if it was me, I wouldn't take either and use it as an excuse to buy another while I was there.

Or three? Who needs clothes and toiletries? No, I think you may have a point Philip. It's so easy to get priorities totally wrong. I should probably take the bike, too. The engine oil and filter and transmission oil have just arrived. I don't see how I can service it and then simply sell it to someone else. I could probably pick up a ferry from the south coast with the guitars and amp lashed onto the back seat. Yeah...

Yep. Had a great naked dream last night. Wild sea, spray flying from the tops of waves, storm clouds billowing and me drying myself on a towel beside a car on the beach. What's that all about?
