You Left

I know you expected me to yell ‘wait’
As you walked away
But there was only silence
And you kept walking
further and further away from me
away from the past
(that clouded your judgement)
the present
(that was becoming less of a gift
and more of a curse)
the future
(that we kept saying would get better)
If you’d looked back
You would’ve seen me doubled over
Screaming so loudly
I couldn’t be heard anymore
You would’ve seen boiling tears
too thick to see you walking away from me
And you would’ve seen me shaking
It had nothing to do with the below freezing weather
But you didn’t look back
and it’s probably for the best

A desire to hold on to love,
A desire to hold on to love, though afraid of seeming weak, holds us back from saying what we really mean, so we say nothing. This is how I read your poem, hope I got it right.
An interesting read.
Jenny.
