Could I But Wake You

COULD I BUT WAKE YOU
I'd flit through your window;
a twig in my beak
to tweak you awake; sprout
clusters of feathers to bluster
my way to your dreams.
I'd screech like mad gulls
at your eardrums,
douse you to shock with cold rain
flapped from the tips of my wings.
I'd do all these things, but you
are not there - and I cannot fly;
my wings have been clipped,
I am screechless and dry in the eye -
for the most part. Grounded.

Lovely piece! A bit sad, but
Lovely piece! A bit sad, but where there is passion can be also sorrow.

liked the play on screechless
liked the play on screechless/speechless, and also the 'dry in the eye - for the most part.' Rhiannon

Lovely, but so sad, Bee.
Lovely, but so sad, Bee.
I imagine this to be a plea to "cross over" to speak to a lost loved one. Of course it could be about unrequited love . . . but I don't think so.
I also thought screechless was excellent, but my favourite line was about spraying rain from wing tips.
