Tree Me

I am a tree today
More willow than oak
I breathe with the flow
Air in my hair - I pray
For the fluster to calm
Each quiver leaf - stilled
Each bowing branch filled
With soothing balm
I am a willow, till tomorrow
Laced with grace
Will not break
Will overcome all sorrow
I am a tree bearing wind and rain
Till they cut me back
Burn me black
Then I'll be ever free from pain

This is lovely. It is amazing how strong we can be, you don't know it till you look back.

Like the personification here
Like the personification here, Bee. Especially poignant for me because coincidentally, I am having a large willow cut down today. It is becoming unsafe, as it is very old, so I have no choice, unfortunately. I suppose I shall have to think of it as having the tree 'put to sleep by a tree-doctor'. I might be able to live with it then. To use you words, 'Then I'll be ever free from pain'.

Very nicely done. I was told
Very nicely done. I was told that willows in your back garden were bad luck, and usually resulted in a death. I planted one and became ill, but had chopped it down previously. Maybe if I hadn't got rid of it I wouldn't be here today!

Very strong piece. Serenity
Very strong piece. Serenity of the tree seems chosen for its calm and then you contrast it with that abrupt, unnatural paring down. My mum's motto, amongst many others, is 'Not all willows will weep.'

HI Bee
HI Bee
Lovely piece. I think weeping willows are my favourite trees - so early to turn green, and so graceful in the wind. No doubt there are times to be gentle and others to be strong and hard like oak.

Hi Bee
This is a lovely poem, reminded me of the Joan Armatrading song, Willow. Very similar sentiment also.
Nice one

Look after number one please!
Willows are such beautiful things, it's good to be one.
(At the moment I need all the Willows I can get!)
