Flew a Bird

On a small branch
on a small tree
sat a small bird,
sweet as a cupped hand.
Head to one side,
it was watchful
as the shadows
swept over the land.
All around
was the hopping of magpies
and the gulls,
in a screech
to be heard.
From a small branch
on a small tree,
song unspoken,
song untainted,
small as courage
flew a bird.

'Small as courage' - that is a gorgeous simile with so many ripples or meaning. A lovely poem.

Hi, Catherine. Lovely feel to this, nice picture, and somehow a suggestion that watching, noticing, thinking being wise rather than rushing around (hopping and screeching!). Rhiannon

This is beautiful. I really
This is beautiful. I really like it a lot. I see the picture in my mind of the scenery all around and the tiny bird taking it all in. This poem had a beautiful rhythm too.

This is beautiful Catherine,
This is beautiful Catherine, it felt like watching a scene from my kitchen window and was a joy to read.
You are perceptive to the natural world around you and that comes out in your writing.
Jenny.
