Coastal Path (4) Pen Dinas/Dinas Head

Down the twisty, steep and narrow lane,
walk the headland, almost island,
up and up, wide sea green,
bursts of golden gorse;
pass the Needle rock
where gulls and guillemots rest and nest,
to the high end, arc view –
craggy coastline south and north;
trail down the windy side,
to sandy beach exposed
deep in the cut
that severs headland from the mainland cliffs,
but no invading sea;
stroll through this neck
to the sheltered start* –
gentle haven, still bay,
single chapel wall, stark and solitary,
silhouette against the calm sea backdrop,
memorial to past destroying storms.
Buildings, graves are vulnerable, breakable,
but the living church remains, unshakable.

This is so visual. The natural and the human world. The transitory nature of life with something immortal and timeless beneath. Lots of layers and things to think about here.

This is a beauty, Rhiannon. Took my breath away. Lovely use of rhyme, too. I wanted to be there - felt I was.
