What Endures

Today, I feel eternally blessed
when I can still walk to the top of our hill
without stopping to rest...
that I can still make bread...kneed dough
with one hand, and make us both a cup of tea
with the other...
bend down – even on dodgy knees
and feed the ducklings – seven survived
this year, and they’re already a month old...
trying Mum’s patience, answering
back with minds of their own...adolescents all –
in duck years.
Not young anymore...either of us, but
we manage, and I’m grateful to the powers that be
for the magic of last night
our undulation, over and under each other –
shadows rise and fall, courtesy of a candle
refused to succumb to the fate of the rest;
burning more strongly – each breath I took,
only served to rekindle its flame, and this morning
thankful, I am, for what endures.

Lovely mix of things, Tina! I'm glad to hear news of the ducklings too, you must enjoy watching them, and feeding them! Rhiannon

So tender, love the image of shadows in candlelight. We are so strong in our frailty. Full of hop and appreciation of life.
