Ah, the Truffle

Ah, the truffle said Professor Pigg.
He scratched his chin, he bowed his head,
he lost himself in deep and piggy thought.
No greater treasure ever has been sought,
Or so I’ve heard.
And yet, you see
I’ve never found the word
that says it best.
The glory of this ancient piggy quest.
Then, through the window he could see
A wood, as wild as woods can be.
He pressed his snout against the glass and sighed.
There was the earth, the sky, the search.
The falling leaves, the oak, the birch.
There, within reach - all that the books implied.
Like
Snuffling, snouting, rooting, routing,
Foamy, loamy, silty, salty, humus, brumus,
Tuberlumus, rummage, scrummage,
Pie and thumbage, feathercappy,
Trotterhappy, shuffle, scuffle, delve….
Or so they say.
He turned away.
Back to the dusty books, the endless dig.
Ah……..the truffle, said Professor Pigg.

What a clever imaginative
What a clever imaginative poem Catherine, I got quite tongue-tied reading all those Professor piggy words. Put a smile on my face. I really enjoyed.
