Chapter 32
Conquest of Chimera
As if Kian’s inability to be near Kia was not painful enough upon his return to the redwood forest, he found he could not get within twenty feet of the massive trees without causing them to wither.
Kia could see the profound hurt in Kian’s face but she also saw rage.
“The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away,” Kian said as he back -stroked his wings and let Kia and Lucius who was now strapped to Kia fly on ahead. “But they are not the Lord!” He yelled. “Do you hear me,” He screamed at the sky, “you don’t get to do this, you’re not God. You aren’t even men, cowards! That’s all you are cruel cowards hiding in moon dust like snakes in the grass.”
“Kian,” said Kia as she turned back to him, “I will stay with you as close as I can. You don’t have to do this alone. Just as soon as I take them back I will return…”
“No you won’t. Go to Wayferra keep yourself safe. The sky is my home now. From here I can see them coming and kill them as they draw near and maybe more.”
“What,” Kia asked, seeing an odd look in his eyes she had never seen before. ‘What are you saying?”
“Everything I need is shining down on me right now. My body is pounding with energy. It needs somewhere to go. Leave Kia. Keep them safe. Live with them, visit me, but live with them. I won’t be going west. I won’t be going anywhere. I can’t be at two places at once. I will stay here and do this.”
Then rising high in the sky until he was out of sight he spread out against the blue, arched his wings legs and arms down like the ribs of an umbrella. Great bands rainbow light suddenly shot out from all his extremities and did not stop until they reached the horizon where they bowed capping the entire Ferrin Territory with an impenetrable dome of light.
“This is my fate Kia.” His voice boomed across the sky like thunder, even though she could no longer see him. “I’ve beaten them Kia, I’ve beaten them.”
Tears streamed down Kia’s face as she flew back to Wayferra, knowing his sacrifice would keep them safe.
Six months later Myra and her horde of devils crested the snow -capped western peaks and streaked toward Wayferra. Kian sensed their presence long before he saw them cloud the sky. Slightly adjusting his energy flow, he rendered his force field body invisible and inescapable. Myra and her flying army flew right into his trap, which promptly vaporized them.
The Chimeran threat to Wayferra was no more. But the Lunan threat remained as did Kian’s rage.
