Vale of Tears

She walks along an avenue
some call the Vale of Tears.

Her agonies and sorrows brew
in eyes that vail her tears.

She whiles alone, her gaze unmet,
behind a veil of tears.

But can she flee from sadness, yet
with no avail of tears?

In time, the Rue of No Regrets
will countervail her tears.

Some interesting thought threads here, Terry, and play on the sounds of vale/veil/countervail.
In line 3 is it meant to be 'vail'' or veil' ?

I meant it to be 'vail'.

I think 'vail' has several meanings, and the particular meaning of 'vail' I intend is something like "to let fall' or "to let go down'... something along those lines...

But of course you are also right that "'veil" could be used... however, using "veil" would give it a different meaning; but I did not use 'veil' in that stanza mainly because I did not want to use any of the 'main words' (e.g.' 'veil') twice...
