Castles in the Air (Poetry Monthly)

The prediction was
that he would go far
because he was born
under a lucky star.
He grew up showing
that he wasn’t a fool;
outsmarted all kids
when he started school.
Lego houses he built
were said to be perfect;
his parents were sure
he’d be an architect.
Could not be a singer
(his voice was soprano)
so he turned his hands
to playing with Meccano.
To be a budding mechanic
maybe was his vocation.
But whatever he did
would enthral the nation.
When reality occurred
all his dreams crumbled;
he flunked his exams
and his pride was humbled.
Although he had talent
and showed great flair
all the roads that he took
seemed to lead nowhere.
But he did go far,
because he was a survivor;
he drove long distances
as a... lorry driver.

Hi Luigi,
Hi Luigi,
loved the rhyme within this poem. The little lad had many dreams, and being a lorry driver is a great way to earn a living, out on the open road. My partner's a truck driver and loves his job.
Great to read your work again.
Jenny. xx
