Antidote

You are the antidote
and this is your world.
Find your own dreams,
not the meagre all we wish for you.
You are all that's good.
You are buying people things.
You are comeuppances,
and the word comeuppance.
You are stew and home,
toast and proper butter.
You are toddler laughs,
long wide roads,
calpol, drums, new music,
the unexpected.
You’re a kid going, “Oh, I get it!”
You are a G chord,
in a new band.
You are not getting caught,
but being honest when you did it wrong,
new words,
more than four hours sleep.
You are the truth,
and half price jeans that fit.
You are putting people who think they're great
and therefore deserve more
in their place.
You are putting people who think they're beautiful
and therefore deserve more
in their place.
You are rain on a flat tin roof.
You are wet grass
and the peace it brings.
You are walks,
lonely or otherwise;
the smell of home,
the swell of tide,
a scent of perfume lost on the breeze.
You are the world,
every point in it converged.
You are the sahara, the continents,
the timeless shift of rock and ages,
the glacial pace of days of life itself.
You are the cells of being,
every word you speak - alive, resounds
through time and bounces back.
You are all things to us,
the infinite space of thought.
You are quietude,
listening and
and whirling vortex all at once;
the alpha and the omega.
You are the spinning of the world that keeps us close.
You are effervescence,
crescendos,
peaks and troughs,
light and shade
east and west
right and wrong
sinister, dexter, peace and surrender,
one and the same.
You are our sons.
You are our everything.
Forgive us for wanting the world for you.
but you are the antidote
and all that's wonderful in this world
now you are in it.
