where the hearses be

where the hearses be
hunched,
driver-less,
exhausts smoke in the break of day.
they huddle
beetle black,
emptied of silent passengers.
they wait
for passengers,
boxed and voiceless;
speaking not in complaint.
clustered by the pavement side,
frosted bumpers
touch for hushed gossip,
it is impossible to hear
what they say.
the bowed bonnets tell enough.

Brilliant imagery - absolutely wonderful. I've read it over and over, and still want to read it again - which I'm just about to do.
