Down at the bottom on the river bed,
grubbing for food on the stones and mud,
preparing to be ready for the time ahead.

One day:

floating on up to the world above
shedding off skins,
spreading out wings
flutter, fly away
maybe just a day
delicacy on display
free from all that pressure
for a short and flight-y future:
little mayfly
soon to die.

Thanks, Jean. I enjoyed picking out the theme, and thought the escape from 'water pressure' was reminiscent of our wanting to get away from pressures! Rhiannon
