time moves on eternally
you cannot click on pause
no referee to stop the clock
regardless of your cause
.
your time is surely limited
and when your time is due
the face upon the clock
will be the face that's mocking you
.
the days fall back behind us
like a row of dominoes
and what new game may loom ahead ?
well, no one really knows
.
the sun and moon revolve
creating dances in the sky
the pages of the calendar
are comets zooming by
.
at first, we're brand new novels
sitting pretty on our shelves
but soon we're torn and dog-eared
shadows of our former selves
.
we spin the dials a little
to relieve the angst and strife
the shadows on the dials
foretell the ending of your life

but soon we're torn and dog-eared seemed a clever picture of our bodies aging!
but have been wondering about the last line of that verse –
former shadows of ourselves
shouldn't it be shadows of our former selves ?
