THIS SUMMER (POETRY MONTHLY)

Late April was Eastbourne for me
A Merseybeats concert to see.
It rained all the time
But the concert was fine –
And the bus to the theatre was free!
In May down to Brighton we went.
I found a cheap hotel to rent.
With places to go
And a Moody Blues show
It really was money well spent.
In June up to Clacton-on-sea
Was duty, not pleasure, for me.
We said our goodbyes,
Wiped sad tears from our eyes
It was my old china’s funeral, you see.
To Hastings the next long weekend
(Oh, when will this jet-set life end?)
It was a party for Daisy,
Thirty kids going crazy,
And her Dad’s broken foot will soon mend.
Then two days in a room near the pier
In Southsea, as we do every year.
To a show with my Beau Justin Hayward you know -
I was beginning to feel rather wayward -
But I’m getting quite knackered, I fear.
At the end of July I just cried
My last dear old Auntie had died.
So once more on the loose
We could find no excuse -
And to Weston we took one more ride.
I hope you won’t end up a mourner
But I’m telling this tale just to warn yer
If you book a short break
It could be a mistake –
Cos you don’t know what waits round the corner!

This is lovely, Linda. Full of colour and atmosphere, liked the use of colloquialisms too 'me old china' and 'knackered' gave it a comfy feel.
