The Fox And The Egg

Once upon a time a fox stole a ducks egg and was talking to himself about how he was going to eat it when, from inside the egg, he heard a little quacking voice say,
"If you wait and keep this egg warm then I will hatch out and more than just an egg you will have a bird to eat".
Now the fox liked eating eggs but he liked eating birds even better so he agreed to wait and keep the egg warm until it hatched, even surrounding it with his soft bushy tail like a nest of fur.
But then the egg started to hatch and, seeing the ducks billed head pop out from the top and its webbed feet push out of the bottom and then the bird, shaking its whole body, shake the egg to pieces, the Fox started to lick his lips and said,
"I have waited for you to hatch out just as I said I would  but now you are a bird so now I am going to eat you".
But then the baby duck, looking up at the fox said,
"But I am just a little bird, barely a mouthful to a creature with a mouth as large as yours. However, if you give me time and feed me then I will grow into a big, fat bird and then you shall have a big fat bird to eat".
Now the fox liked eating little baby birds but he liked eating big, fat birds even better and so, even though the sight of the baby duck did make him very hungry, he agreed to wait and feed the baby duck every day so that it could grow big and fat.
Then one day, when the duck had grown very large and very fat, the Fox, licking his lips again, said to the bird,
"I have waited and fed you just as I said I would but now you are a big bird so now I am going to eat you".
But as the fox was about to pounce upon the duck, the duck spread its wings wide and started to flap them and as it did it started to rise into the air and, before the fox could get within a whisker of it, the duck had taken off, flying up high into the blue summer sky above.
"But its not fair", protested the fox, "I waited so long and all for nothing".
"The wise are patient but only the fool waits too long", said the bird then it flew away to freedom leaving the poor fox very sad and very hungry.
