they’ve made the petals bright/raining down/halo flocked/by artificial light/and i am reminded of buttercup chins/decades since/wedged in/through cigarette gestures/my gradual resignation/measured/with threadbare grins.

i am lit/in artifice/by the smiles of others/the gleam hovers/illuminating my hollows/before moving on/a last light ricochet/bouncing off/my inability to connect/no more/as all fades/becoming wilderness.
