sometimes, the senses we possess
fade out as years climb on
the stars that once shone brightly
bow their heads when shown the dawn
.
for me, alas, it was my eyes
the curtain finally fell
i wandered through a pitch black maze
adrift in sightless hell
.
i cursed my eyes as traitorous
how could they flee the scene
in youth, they were my guardians
my vision, clear and keen
.
but thank the lord for music
for it made me see the light
now music granted imagery
no longer grasped by sight
.
yes, i've learned to count my blessings
and as strange as this appears
i'd rather put my eyes to rest
than see with silent ears

It reminded me of Milton's poem "On his blindness" only with more modern language and outlook. A good inspirational poem. I liked it.

Music and sound becomes your world when sight is lost. I loved the positive outlook and the beauty of finding a new world to live in when darkness took hold. Very well written.

I was thinking of Beethoven's deafness. It seems he could 'hear' the music he was composing in his head, with the rich memories he had of musical notes and harmony, but had to 'talk' and 'hear' conversation by writing/reading. Rhiannon
