Intense the heat,
the hurt, the pain,
repeat, repeat
again, again –
unbearable
sense of defeat.
Robot-like
keep going, sleep,
get up, work, earn
– and privately weep
with howling long
– ‘how long?’
‘how much?’
(the tears unshed)
– ‘when will I feel again
the touch
of cooling breeze
with lightening sense
of peace and ease
from stress intense
once more?
O Lord,
support and keep me,
speedily send relief,
more strength
before I stumble,
crumble
bringing grief
on those who look to me
to persevere, provide
and guide.’
