Freefalling

Freefalling
Like leaves that pirouette from the boughs of a dusty autumn branch
Like snowflakes that glisten amongst even the darkest of nights
And like a steady summer shower, breaking up muggy cloud- filled skies
I fell
Did you hold out your hand ready to break my impact ?
Or did you watch as I careered to the ground,
Wincing as I landed and lay at your feet
Beautiful, yet delightfully broken.
Did you pick over my shards ? Try to " fix" me ?
Did you fall to your knees and gather me back up in your palms
Like your whole world had crashed down in front of you ?
Or did you stare at my crumbled remains,
Unable to touch, yet unable to look away
Bidding me a hasty retreat as I lay amongst the wreckage of natures delectable beauty.
You said you could handle me.
But I slipped through your fingers and
look.
Just look at the mess that you made.
