All aboard! the country bus

The BBC slow real-time country bus ride
Lovely slow ride,
we seem to glide
through such beautiful
soothing countryside:
hawthorn in bloom
and buttercup meadows;
silence, except for the bird-song and baa-s,
the moo-s and occasional passing cars.
At the stops we go in and hear travellers’ chatter,
but mostly we’re deaf to the indoor natter –
it’s as if we sit on the roof, aloof
[– like a stage-coach driver, perhaps,
but then you’d be hearing the horses’ clops],
we’re scanning ahead and beside
in gentle rotation,
sat at a camera’s fixed location;
on we climb past villages, farms,
until we get to the barren moors
Buttertubs pass so high
vast and wonderful views (and sky)
and a glimpse of the limestone pothole pits
then down through Hawes, to journey’s end
at Ribblehead viaduct, lonely scene
of Batty moss moor, undulations green:
two peaceful hours without narration
– though occasional ‘notes’ appear in the sky
or fields, as the bus passes by –
no music, no gush, no crowds, no crush,
no dash, no tension, no road rage, no rush.
