rebuilt by serpents

rebuilt by serpents
magpie,
take my heart.
raven,
take my liver.
crow,
take my gaze.
as Samhain bends
before me,
change curls
like a river,
moving through
dark, damp and cold;
winter’s bond
shall not break.
disembodied –
bone white
shining.
the dark months
close around me,
with cupped hands.
gifting me sleeping quiet
from which to return,
anew.
earth splits silently,
for the uncoiling
of serpents,
bone bound,
these veins,
are revitalised
through venom.
the serpents whisper
me whole,
whisper me,
back from the dead.
as flesh-given,
i become.
i become.
