Autumn Colours
By Ed Crane
- 1440 reads
While trees bordering the Potomac
turn their greens to fire and golden
leaves of Oak and Elm are released
to dance on Pennsylvania Avenue or
flutter past the windows of muffled
Georgian terraces - the colors this fall
are red and blue - Willow Oaks weep
by the famous pool reflecting values
falling with their weary leaves. Decay
of honesty; respect; integrity; truth.
Well may Lincoln ask how many seasons
until these precious seeds flower again.

Oh, I do like this. Simple
Oh, I do like this. Simple and short verbal picture and message. And we all need to take to heart that the seeds of honesty; respect; integrity; truth, are the things that work, in the long run. Rhiannon

Hi Ed,
Hi Ed,
you've captured the beauty and essence of a place I shall probably never get the chance to see in real life.
There's such a strong sense of patriotism to this writing. I especially loved the last two lines which sum up the poem nicely.
Jenny.
