Impatient son – he poked the crumbs
that topped the pudding’s plums.
He licked his finger, quickly went,
disaster to prevent –
‘There’s something wrong – just take a taste!’
she did, and what a waste!
that huge fruit crumble whisked away,
– and ice cream saved the day.
The problem? Well, she had confused
the boxes – salt was used
instead of sugar – none could eat
the fruit no longer sweet!

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
I wonder if this story is true. What a disaster and disappointment for all concerned.

Hi Rhiannon,
Hi Rhiannon,
this is a great IP and an easy mistake to make. I had a similar disaster when I was in cookery at school making a Christmas cake. The look on the teacher's face when tasting my work was something I'll never forget.
Had a smile on my face as I read.
Jenny.

Ha, this is reminds me of Home Ec. at school and how my friend forgot to put the flour in her Swiss roll then took it out of the oven and tried to add it whilst in the tin.

Mishaps are part and parcel
Mishaps are part and parcel of cookery, Rhiannon, and your unfortunate example illustrates this.
I remember a young relative of mine who was supposed to look after a chicken broth in which a poussin was slowly cooking. She went out to play and when she returned, the water had evaporated and a burnt chick was all that remained.
