I caught him last night
In that sideways glance

Half-smiling recognition
Of self and situation

Life’s tragedy
And comedy

Shame he never shared
What he saw

But I can guess

I don’t know how they managed
All those years

Chalk and cheese

Silent contemplation
And his sidekick running-commentary

He lives through idiosyncrasies
Immortalised in mannerisms

not obvious, certainly layered  - and thought provoking. Good use of the opposites in conjunction and the occasional alliteration, all the while making it look effortless.

I wish I had your technical knowledge but, if I did, I'm not sure I could reassemble these words.

Talent is understanding what goes on under the hood and then being able to write it. I just get lucky now and then.
