Sitting on a bench
in Calle de las Huertas
thinking “If I don’t stop tilting
to the right, I might never get
to the middle again”
And people walking by
and stopping at the quotation
of the literary great
that I can’t read the beginning of
But poetry belongs
with these beautiful women
whom I have come to take for granted
And the sun, of course
It makes no difference
whether these streets flow
with beautiful women
with beautiful men
or with blood

I love that - 'if I don't
I love that - 'if I don't stop tilting to the right, I might never get in the middle again'. The ground seems very unstable at the moment. The upheaval where you are has such historical resonance. I don't know as much about it as I should, but enough to know it's a lot more complex than most of us over here probably realise.
