Volunteering Riding Hood

I thought it would be so easy
to carry my basket of training and skills into
useful unpaid occupations
I expected to trip along beaming in my little red cloak
to grateful grannies and charming infants
It has bruised my knees and bumped into doorways
I dont want to commit to mentoring a difficult youth for years.
got the Tshirt on that
Have no admin skills, can't type, organize, or sort
can't even clean floors efficiently
could be a docent for the little museum
that does appeal
It has Victorian collections with all manner of ephemera
a Cuniform message from Nebuchadnezzer , stuffed birds and... a working train set
might learn to give tours in "the big venue" but its modern art and architecture
and a lot to remember
difficult to enthuse when I am not enthused about modernism
So I tried to sign up to hear little children read
ran about with passport and utility bills several times
a nice woman in the office helped me fill out the forms
Then I had a phone call
The last stage was upon me BUT
the check only lasts 3 months and they had no current vacancies
DOH!
Gone off volunteering for now

I sympathise (and identify).
I sympathise (and identify). It's been nearly two years since I retired and I've derived guilty pleasure from not actually having to turn out to anything if I don't feel like it. I'm thinking now I might be ready to take something on, but I can forsee one major problem. I have well and truly got out of the habit of doing what I'm told.
Very much enjoyed reading this!
