THE SERENE
sky grabbed me by the neck
lifted me from my canoe
and flung me into the night sky.
In my travel through space
I tried counting stars
but stopped at ten. I listened to the wind.
Hey – I am the wind whistling
through the trees and above this
valley where beaver dams
provide shelter
for other animals too.
Colours preen before my eyes as the sun
settles in the closeness of shadows.
Almost creepy – my skin filling with tingles
as I settle back in my canoe. That was
a gasping good trip.
