Along a Roman Road
By Robert Craven
- 1669 reads
I’m travelling to Lexhane,
along a Roman Road;
Where twinkl’d glass beckons me through hidden river fords.
To a pond that softly brooks and whispers,
Like nut-brown skin that lolls across settees of dappled
sun.
I’m travelling to Lexhane
Along a Roman Road;
Past tree-lined stiles of tread-worn wood to where laughter,
singing deep with mischief,
fangs and tails past dusty book-shelv’d rooms to the ancient
Aga hearth,
beneath soft, wafting rosettes of summer breath,
through peaceful honey-combed, safe Lexhane
along a Roman road.

Past and present whispering
Past and present whispering to each other. Really evocative and the rhythm conveys the journey. Very much enjoyed reading this.

Some wonderful use of
Some wonderful use of metaphors here like:-
To a pond that softly brooks and whispers,
Like nut-brown skin that lolls across
settees of dappled
sun.
Very much enjoyed your poem and thank you for sharing.
Jenny.
