I am Only Me

I am only human, that is all any can be.
No more, no less, no need to guess.
I’ve treasured, I’ve loathed, I’ve wept and laughed,
There have been times that I’ve even worn a mask.
Some days I’m excited, others I’m depressed,
Sometimes I’m nervous and even stressed.
I am a gentle and caring friend.
You know I’ll listen until the end.
I am a daughter/sister, my parents are my greatest friends,
their smiles and words will always support me till the end.
I am a warrior, poet, and a student too,
to the best of friends, I’ll only trust this with you.
I can be sweet and shy or frightening and daring,
I’m fairly complicating , and sometimes overbearing.
I am not perfect, I have a tremondous amount of faults,
and when I get frustrated or scared, I put up several walls.
Or I’m not as social as my friends wish me to be,
because while I smile and talk, I hurt inside deeply.
My mind is entirely my own, most times misunderstood,
because I don’t always do things most consider good.
I have many faces, like a Russian doll you see…
I am only me.

Lovely imagery of the Russian
Lovely imagery of the Russian doll, and I like the way the structure of the poem mirrors the different strands that make up each individual. We are, indeed, many different people.
