Listen

Listen,
they are gone.
Bones locked in mud,
turned to soil
and fertilising fields
or under carved granite.
I remember George,
Dad's eldest brother
crying for mother,
mind locked inside,
self turned inward
and hiding from ghosts.
Look! There!
Outside Tescos,
with tarnished medals,
in combat clothing
camouflaged better here,
than in the desert.
Cheers, thanks
for remembering
the dead's sacrifice,
while you walk past
the faded poppies
under your nose.
The book in the image is available here. Raising awareness like this is one of the best ways to help the homeless.

‘Camouflaged better here than
‘Camouflaged better here than in the desert’ Jesus that just encapsulates it. We deify the unknown (as we should) but disregard the known.

thoughtfull
Makes me think. Your clearly a very talented writer.
Initially I was going to write a further comment picking out the comment that one in ten homeless are ex military. I thought at first that maybe this was being a bit unfair to the other nine out of ten whos voices maybe not represented but when I thought about it a bit more I completely agree that this statistic should be shown.
If for nothing but at least it shows how much the goverment and politicians care about people who break there back defending democracy.
And respect to you for how you are donating proceeds of your book to the homeless. Very inspiring and socially aware.
I am going to order your book on friday when I get paid so this will be the next book I get stuck into. I like to try and support abc writers when ever I get the chance
