Two Little Treasures

Ambling through woods at Stanton Park two little
girls best friends catch our eyes, all dolled up they
were like princesses in long satin dresses.
“There's something special about them,” I say,
both giggling...one in shiny pink, blue and green,
the other shimmering in gold and yellow, as both
sparkled wearing red wellies covered in mud,
wings were all they needed chasing each other
around ancient trees...as fleeting sounds of birds
scattered in winter's chilly breeze.
The air so cold as we passed stagnant ponds of
watery mud, till we reach lake of swans and
still those little girls dance on.
Come spring nature's trails will be revealed
those sheep once more pasture in green field,
but for now I'll simply reflect on those two
little treasures that gave me such pleasure.
Our Walk through Stanton Park
on 1st January 2019.

I wonder how long before the pretty dresses got muddy (or torn?). It reminded me of my grandchildren with bridesmaids dresses on walking from the car with boots on to save their pretty shoes. And another acquaintance who got married in a severely snowy time and the bride and her maids had to walk to and from the church in wellies I think! Rhiannon

That's a lovely image, the way you describe the coldness/bareness of the woods with the colour and care free life of the children! I spent happy hours choosing a fancy dress costume for my neice's birthday - I hope she has so much fun as those 2 little girls
