Yellow Is the Colour

I seriously mean it,
I don't talk in jest,
of all the colours
yellow is the best,
 
Reminiscent of citrus
and lemon zest,
of pale lager beer
at the Oktoberfest;
 
of the fiery sun
which in turn
warms our skin
and also burns;
 
of a cute bird,
a fluffy canary,
seemingly fat
but rather airy;
 
of the succulent taste
of a golden yolk
that is the result
of an egg that broke;
 
of Italian polenta
a meal that is made
with maize flour
of the finest grade;
 
of the yellow jersey
at the Tour de France
where victory hinges
on a mere chance.
 
This is for certain
my favourite hue
but of what you like
I haven't a clue.

I loved that second stanza, made my mouth water, felt quite thirsty just reading it.

I think you are ahead in the polls with this one.  Yellow is topical at the moment with daffs in my garden.

Really liked this one.

I deliberately omitted the daffs, Graham, I didn't want to plagiarise Wordsworth and could not think of a suitable substitute for 'a host of daffodils'.

Yellow is also traditionally the colour for faithfulness. Think of some old songs and yellow ribbons.
