The Ice Cream Man
By Paul McCann
The tinkle of sweet music’s twigs my ear
like a dream his Ice cream man is almost near,
Come on Mum’s and Dad’s be nice ,
buy the kids a chocolate ice
before the ice cream man has gone away .
Life is like an ice cream cone
sometimes it makes you scream and moan,
if you’re not quick you’ll be surprised
ice cream melts before your eyes
There’s mouths a dripping like a water spout
with eyes like saucers they all begin to shout
Get me one of those ice things
I want one of those nice things
With strawberry on the top please , right away .
Life is like an ice cream cone
sometimes it makes you scream and moan,
if you’re not quick you’ll be surprised
ice cream melts before your eyes .
On Sunday afternoon life in the street
Pauses to enjoy an ice cream treat
All the children come my way
Their happy faces smile and say
Mr ice cream man don’t go away .
Life is like an ice cream cone
sometimes it makes you scream and moan,
if you’re not quick you’ll be surprised
ice cream melts before your eyes .

Took me back to those, MR.
Took me back to those, MR. SOFTEE and THE GOOD HUMOR MAN, days of childhood, the ice cream truck's music that called all to them, like the pied piper, and we little beggars asking our parents to buy us those tasty afternoon treats on those warm summer afternoons. Those Summer days filled with endless time to pursue all and anything we wanted to. Lazy days that always lived up to our childish expectations and looking back, I'm glad to have had those simple days of childhood summers...for the rat race of today has efficiently annihilated those lazy days. Thanks for the memory.
