Ouse

Muddy Ouse of childhood
Copper-tainted margins
Ouse in flood
And unlikely morning sun
Ouse beneath bridges
And between them:
Lendal, Scarborough
Ouse past Marygate:
My dad’s post-demob flat
Ouse past the crem
Ouse between banks:
Left and right;
Between you and me
Ouse from the past
Into the future
Ouse of fishing, rowing;
Of shouts and diesel trains
Ouse of cycling and recycling
Ouse of summer swimming;
Leptospirosis
Ouse of drowning
No one ever drowned
In the same river twice
It's not Great, this Ouse
But it isn't bad, either

Enjoyed river observations and memories very much. Loved ‘no one ever drowned in the same river twice’.
