A Mid Night Dream

It is quite surprising
where dreams can take you.
It may be to a place
where you have never been
and full of people
you've never seen.
 
But the landscape I dreamt
last night was familiar.
It was in North Wales
and the reason I know
is that I saw the road sign
that read Croeso.
 
In the old venue
I met many friends:
Stuart, Carol, Chris and Maureen.
They were solicitous
and all wanted to know
if I still wrote in my magazine.
 
I was very afraid
that I would be scolded
if I revealed the journal had folded.
But this was my dream
and so I could tell
that the zine was alive and well.
 
I said my goodbyes
and Mark drove me home
at ten, on the M56.
It was then he confessed
that he was in a fix
and didn't know what to do.
 
He'd always voted Labour
but was tempted to switch
in favour of Plaid Cymru.
I said, “Mark, I'm Italian.
It's no use asking me”
And resumed my sleep.

What an involved dream! Do you notice that Cymru (Wales as in Plaid Cymru) changes to Gymru after the preposition 'i' (to)? There are a lot of first letter mutations like that in the Welsh language. Rhiannon

I am aware that there are a lot of mutations, Rhiannon, but I wouldn't know how to use them.
Years ago I used to belong to a writers' group that met in Flintshire. Perhaps subconsciously the memory of those literary get together induced the dream.

It is so strange how memories from long ago can suddenly be the central subject of a dream, as if sleeping is like a fruit machine and the memories are the fruit, some stay the same, like where you are from, but others can whizz round and round till one from way back comes to the fore, and others more contempory maybe only move one or two, yet from all this we try to make sense. I am glad it was a happy dream, I am amazed you remembered so much detail! I really liked the last 3 lines :0)

Hi Di.
I was once told that eating cheese before bedtime will induce vivid dreams. I haven't tested that theory yet but even without dairy products I get quite colourful dreams. Sometimes, in recounting them one may be tempted to add extra information that wasn't obvious in the dream but was relevant at the time of the event.
When I travelled by car to the reading venue, the driver and I used to talk incessantly, mostly of politics and politicians and what mess the world was in. So what I said all throughout and especially  in the last few lines might have been stored in my memory.
