It’s the eyes that capture my heart

Chocolate brown and soulful

Beaming unconditional love

And sending sunshine into my day

No matter what the weather truly is

He sits by my side

A warm and furry blanket

His joyful tail wagging

Beating rhythmically

Against the couch

His kisses fairly slobber

But I couldn’t care less

He is my best friend

And he knows my

Heart is his

That this connection

Cannot last my lifetime

Is unfair

Too short the years

 He’ll bless my life

Too short

The days we’ll share

The ending

Not far away

My friend is waning

Cancer

Has crept silently

And quickly

And I

Can only try

To make the days

We have left

As joyful for him

As all the sunny days

He’s given me

What an adorable poem Penny, you've captured his essence perfectly. I'm so sorry to read Frankie has cancer, this must be an awfully sad time for you, but your poem is a great tribute to such a wonderful friend and I'm sure he knows how much you care.

Yes Jenny, these are diffcult days but he is still happy and able at the moment, not sure when that will change and not at all wanting that time to come. This puppy (big dog really) stole my heart on day one and it will be very difficult not to see his big happy face and now I am crying- so thank you for your kind thoughts, I always appreciate them.

Thank you insert, and yes, I am giving him every doggie dream I can, ice cream (vanilla only) and all the human foods he loves.

Thank you Drew, this is the sad part of loving a pet. They just don't have the longevity we do, but I don't regret the days we've had. He's the best dog ever, and for me and my family, it's been a pleasure sharing our days with him.

Thank you Di_Hard, and you're right, you never get over those pets that have stoplen your heart, filled your days with happy tails and silly antics. Frankie is special to us, from the first day and, to anyone who met him, you knew it. He looks at you with those big eyes, filled with love and now I am crying again...but I'm sure even after 20 years, when you think of your pet, the days you shared still warms your heart too.
