Signs of Spring 5)

Magnolia by street light.
So strange those
waxy, marble tulip-like-orbs
delicate, easily spoilt by frost,
that emerge from strange buds
on leafless branches,
heralding early spring.

Beautiful aren't they
Beautiful aren't they Rhiannon and strangely waxy too as you describe. There are a few examples of Soulangeana in my area looking their best right now, I admire them on my singular outing of the day and they significantly improve the quality of my visual environment. I love the way you've described the strange buds, furry things, so much energy goes into flowering.

What a beautiful photo! They
What a beautiful photo! They do seem strange and exotic. Maybe the size of flower has something to do with it too. Frivolous to be so big when frost could put everything to waste, as you say. I can't belive you seem weeks ahead of us though, like with your gooseberries. The magnolia up the road is not even showing pink, let alone the magnificent display of your bush!

Yet another beautiful poem
Yet another beautiful poem that inspires Spring Rhiannon. I haven't seen this flower where I live, so it's nice to read your poem and know that it flourishes at your end of the country.
