Bad news, I'm afraid.
 
I have been informed that Jessica's Tunisian boyfriend, Ali, has gone to Syria to join the opponents of the Assad regime and, as he is considered to be a jihad extremist, her connection to him makes her more of a security risk. Her application to work for us is bound to be rejected.
 
I imagine she'll be disappointed but not as much as me. I was beginning to make progress in our burgeoning relationship. I truly believe that she had become more amiable and malleable and in the right circumstances she could have been a suitable replacement for my current PA, miss Moneypound, who has become far too demanding. A roll in the hay doesn't entitle her to an engagement ring. Although her fat behind has rubbed the top of the desk in my office smooth and shiny on many occasions, I think it is time for parting of the ways. I am not the marrying kind.
 
Jessica is a better proposition altogether. I wonder how she is coping with her enforced celibacy. I am sure that I could easily assuage her lingering frustration if only I could shorten our social distance to less than the suggested minimum.
 
When we planted our bugs in her house I was able to listen in. The devices were so sensitive that I could even hear the sound of tea being poured from the teapot into a cup. There was a buzzing sound, though, that I could not recognise. Unable to contain my curiosity I texted her asking if she had an electric toothbrush.
 
When she said that she hadn't, I dismissed my query as joke. After the removal of those listening devices the facility of overhearing disappeared but I was still determined to find out.
 
I sneaked into her flat while she was out jogging and searched the bedroom and bathroom where I suspected that mysterious sound originated. There was an object to which the noise could be ascribed: a depilator.
 
My fantasy went into overdrive and I saw myself caressing those long velvety legs of hers.

I am now in the chalet and back to reality with a bump. I have to reassess the situation in view of recent events both professionally and personally. Pros and cons have to be evaluated.
 
Once Jessica's application is turned down and she's given the elbow she will be free to pursue a more normal career and I can then substitute my professional interest in her with serious amorous intentions. That's the only pro I can think of.
 
The negative side of this is that she may reject my advances and if ties are broken I will also lose the use of the rent-free chalet.
 
My chances of promotion will be affected as I was the one pushing for her to be accepted in the Secret Services and the fact that she was found to be unsuitable proves my lack of judgement.
I seem to have dug myself into a hole.

Hi Luigi,

Oooh! What a creep, sneaking into Jessica's house and listening in. I can't think of anything more scary than that. Hope she refuses his advances, especially after she was kind enough to give him a free roof over his head.

Well Jenny, we suspected all along that he was a wrong 'un by the way he conducted himself at the interview. He has proved to be a snake and hope he'll get his comeuppance. We'll have to see Jessica's reaction. I am curious to know as I imagine you are. I'll let you what I find out.

What a cad, though I'm quite sad that she isn't going to be a spy after all. And yes, I wonder what Jessica will do next. He can't keep staying in her chalet. Rachel x

I'm missing out on something here..will have to go back to a chalet and follow the clues Luigi...this part here, great line, hearing the tea pour...an intimate intrusion for sure...nevermind the toothbrush/dilapidator thingy! which was wry enough that I think I saw you smiling writing it! Very entertaining.

A newcomer to this piece may find it confusing, NIcky. It  is part of a continuing saga that I have been releasing in chunks of approx. 500 words that can be traced from the links at the bottom of the page.
